Jami Cornwell Inducted into Turner Ashby High School's Hall of Fame
October 9, 2006
The Athletic Department at Turner Ashby High School in Bridgewater, VA has inducted a highly decorated woman into its Hall of Fame. Jami Cornwell, a member of the class of 1999, has been tagged the best model of a student-athlete because of her success in the classroom and in athletics.
Earning four letters in volleyball, basketball and softball, Cornwell played an integral part in winning three District Volleyball, three District Basketball, and four District Softball Championships; two Region Basketball and one Region Softball Championship. Cornwell also helped lead her basketball team to win the Virginia State AA Championship during her senior season.
While she would take a team award over an individual award any day of the week, Cornwell certainly did not lack individual honors. She scored 1,113 points, dished out 521 career assists in basketball, was All-District three years in volleyball, three years in basketball, and four years in softball; All-Region two years in volleyball, three years in basketball and three years in softball; All-State two years in basketball, three years in softball, and was the State AA Player of the Year in basketball. When asked about the induction, Cornwell stated, "I am very honored to be in the first class to be inducted into Turner Ashby's Hall of Fame. I was very fortunate to have three great coaches and some very talented teammates who helped me reach this level of success."
