Misenheimer, NC – Pfeiffer University head men’s basketball coach Dave Davis joked around as he announced the signing of Antonio Kalpic by saying, “Stop the presses! Pfeiffer men’s basketball signed a tall person!” Coach Dave Davis received a commitment from Antonio Kalpic, a 6'9" 220-pound inside/outside player from Croatia, who has played the last two seasons of high school basketball in North Carolina.
"Pfeiffer University has a great individual in Antonio Kalpic," said Wesleyan coach Tim Wilson. "He is an extremely hard worker on the floor and in the classroom." Kalpic was recruited by several Division I schools and received a great deal of attention from bigger schools before deciding on Pfeiffer.
"We are very fortunate to land Antonio," said Davis. "He is very skilled and agile for a guy his size. It is widely known that we will not take big kids if they cannot move and Antonio can do this, as well as shoot from deep and pass the ball. He has a high basketball IQ."
Kalpic follows a tradition of “Antonios”, who had incredible careers at Pfeiffer including All-Time North Carolina College Scoring leader Tony Smith who just finished a 14 year professional playing career; Antonio Harvey, who played in the NBA for seven seasons and is now the radio voice for the Portland Trailblazers; and Antonio Bailey who led Pfeiffer to the only undefeated (18-0) conference record in Carolina's-Virginia Athletic Conference history.
