Jill Thomas named Head Coach

dsc_8901.jpgMisenheimer, NC –Director of Athletics Bobby Stewart announces Jill Thomas will serve as Pfeiffer University’s women’s basketball Head Coach.  “I am very excited to have Jill lead our women’s program,” said Stewart.  “I have been tremendously impressed with Jill’s ability to positively influence a team that was struggling through a difficult period.  Her skills and work ethic will undoubtedly lead this program to success.”

During this past season, Thomas served as Assistant Coach for the Falcons and took the reins as Interim Head Coach partially through the season.  Pfeiffer finished with an overall record of 9-20 and lost in the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas tournament to the Barton Bulldogs. While serving as interim head coach, Thomas led the Falcons to seven of their nine wins on the season.

“I am extremely thrilled about this opportunity and the group of girls I get to work with on an everyday basis,” said Thomas.  “I am very excited about the future of this program and look forward to bringing success to Pfeiffer in many ways through the women's basketball program.”

Thomas’ previous coaching experience includes a season as Dakota Wesleyan University’s Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach, as well as a season at Mitchell High School in Mitchell, South Dakota as the assistant for the Women’s Basketball team. 

Thomas brings extensive experience in recruiting, scouting, film breakdown, and strength and conditioning.  She also has an in-depth knowledge of camps, having worked with several high school programs, as well as Dakota Wesleyan University, Black Hills State University, and Northwest College.   

In addition to valuable coaching experience, Thomas played on the NJCAA Division I and NAIA Division II levels.  While at Northwest College she set the school record for most points in one game.  She was also a member of the teams that set the school record for best record in one season and best record and most wins in two seasons.  While serving as team captain at Black Hills State University Thomas was selected as a Dakota Athletic Conference Player of the Week and earned a DAC All-Conference award.   

In 2004 Thomas graduated from Northwest College obtaining an Associate Degree with Honors in Physical Education.  She earned a Bachelor Degree in Wellness Management with a minor in Coaching in 2006 from Black Hills State University.  This year Thomas acquired a Master Degree in Education from Dakota Wesleyan University with an emphasis on curriculum and instruction.
