Five sign with women's basketball

Misenheimer, NC – Pfeiffer University women’s basketball coach Jill Thomas announces five players have signed with the program. Kellie Rhoney (Claremont, NC/ Bunker Hill), Olivia Surratt (Morganton, NC/ Freedom), Nicole Harvey (Orange, VA/ Orange County), Charlotte Fuller (Moorestown, NJ/ Moorestown), and Kia Rice (Salisbury, NC/ Salisbury) join previously announced signees Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, NC/ Bishop McGuinness) and Celeste Caudill (Sparta, NC/ Allegany).  “All of these freshmen will have the ability to step in right away and help us achieve our goals for the 2009-10 season,” remarked Coach Thomas.

Thomas continued to say, “I am extremely excited about this new incoming class we have. They are all great players and more importantly great student-athletes who will represent our program well.  The majority of our incoming freshmen come from power house high school programs and know what it takes to win a title.”

Brittany Cox completed her four years at Bishop McGuinness as a four-time 1A state champion. She was selected for the Northwest 1A All-Conference Team and the Northwest 1A Conference Tournament Team.  Cox was also the the Northwest 1A Conference Tournament MVP and the Regional Tournament MVP.  Celeste Caudill wrapped up her time at Allegany as a four-time All-Conference player.

Kellie Rhoney has been honored as a four-time All-Conference selection and as a four-time team MVP.  She was an All-Unifour selection her junior and senior years, as well as a Catawba Valley Classic All-Tournament team selection her senior year. Rhoney resides in the Top Ten All-Time list for girls basketball at Bunker Hill in Points (1,104), Assists (342), Steals (276), Three-Pointers (78), and Free Throws (307).  In 2009 Allegany finished as the Catawba Valley Athletic Conference 2A Division Champions. 

Olivia Surratt was named to the 2008-09 Northwestern All-Conference team and was selected twice as Freedom High’s Best Offensive Post Player.  She played for the West team in the Charlotte All Star Classic.  In her senior year Surratt averaged a double-double in conference play.  She is a four-year varsity letter winner in both basketball & volleyball. As a member of Freedom High’s team, Surratt won the 2008-09 Freedom Christmas Tournament and the 2008-09 Northwestern 4-A Conference Tournament. 

Christina Harvey, a team captain at Orange County, was selected for the All-District first team her senior year and the All-District second team her junior year.  She was a recipient of the Player of the Week award and Leader on the Court award as a junior, and Central Virginia Basketball Character Achievement Award as a junior and senior. As a sophomore, junior, and senior she made the All-Tournament team in the Orange Tip-Off Tournament and the Daily Progress Christmas Tournament.                                                                        

Charlotte Fuller earned the Albert J. Carino B.C.S.L Most Outstanding Player award as a member of the B.C.S.L All Star Team and the South Jersey All Star Team.  At Moorestown, Fuller was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year and the Most Outstanding Female Performer.

Kia Rice was named Best Defensive Player at Salisbury in her freshman year.  Her team won three Conference Championships and two Sectional and Regional Championships.  She was a member of the 2009 2A Basketball State Championship team.
