Hinman receives statewide award

High Point, NC -- Suzie Hinman, team captain and goalie of the Pfeiffer University women’s soccer team, received the third annual North Carolina Campus Compact Community Impact Student Award during the Compact’s Student Conference held at High Point University Saturday, November 8. Twenty-seven college students across the state received the award for making significant, innovative contributions to their campus’ efforts to address local community needs.
Hinman, a junior majoring in History and Political Science, serves as the Chair for the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC). She is a Bonner Leader and completed 900 service hours in two years by volunteering with Special Olympics and Second Parenthood. Last year, Hinman spearheaded a program to raise awareness about college drinking which raised over $2,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She took an active leadership role with the Francis Center for Servant Leadership by planning this year’s Campus Week of Dialogue that engaged over 200 students, faculty, and staff in conversations about controversial issues. Hinman also coordinated voter registration drives on campus.
North Carolina Campus Compact is a statewide coalition of higher education presidents and chancellors established to encourage and support campus engagement in the community.
