Addition of Men's Volleyball Announced
September 28, 2008
MISENHEIMER, NC – Bobby Stewart, Director of Athletics, announces men’s volleyball will start competing as a NCAA Division II sponsored sport at Pfeiffer University in the spring 2010 semester.
Ben Guiliano, Pfeiffer Head Women’s Volleyball Coach, will be the inaugural head coach of the men’s volleyball team while continuing to lead the women’s team. “There’s a large amount of high school boys playing volleyball in certain parts of the country, like western Pennsylvania, New York, and southern California, but there aren’t that many college teams. The boys don’t have the options the girls have at the NCAA level. This is a natural progression for Pfeiffer, especially with the support we have already seen for our women’s volleyball team.”
“Coach Guiliano has brought great success to our women’s team and I am confident he will do the same with the men’s program. We are very fortunate to have somebody of his coaching caliber and experience to lead this additional program,” said Stewart.
The men’s volleyball program will add 12 to 14 new student-athletes to the Pfeifer community and will begin competitive play in the spring of 2010. The Falcons look to be a regional competitor against teams from Mount Olive College, Lees-McRae College, and King College. Because the NCAA men’s volleyball championship is combined for Division I and II schools, Pfeiffer is looking at the possibility of bringing Division I schools such as George Mason and Princeton onto the schedule.
Please contact Coach Guiliano by emailing him at email@example.com if you are interested in becoming a Falcon volleyball player.
Pfeiffer University is a four-year, liberal arts institution located in Misenheimer, North Carolina. The Falcons compete in 17 NCAA Division II sports.
