Men's Basketball to Play Exhibition at Duke

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University men’s basketball head coach Dave Davis announced today that his Falcons will face the Duke Blue Devils, ranked in the top five of early preseason polls, in an exhibition contest on October 24th, 2009 at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Game time at Duke will be announced at a later date.

Pfeiffer will travel to Durham, N.C. to play in one of the most difficult environments in the Nation. The Falcons will also be going up against one of the most storied programs in college basketball history facing its Hall of Fame and current U.S. Olympic head coach Mike Krzyzewski.

This will not be the first venture into big time division one college basketball for Pfeiffer. The Falcons dropped 101 points on North Carolina at the Dean Dome in 2006, including 66 points in the second half. In 2005, Pfeiffer traveled to West Lafayette, Indiana to take on Purdue, finding themselves with a 15 point advantage early in the second half.

“This is an incredible opportunity and will be an unbelievable experience for our young team” said Davis, who enters his 14th season at Pfeiffer. “The folks at Duke have been excellent to work with and are so nice to give us a chance to play and compete against them. We always say that we want to play the best, but we may need to be careful on what we ask for.”

The Falcons will get plenty of exposure by playing in Durham in October. Duke and the Atlantic Coast Conference, being arguably the best in college basketball, are scheduled to make 162 appearances on national television networks throughout the 2009-2010 men’s basketball season. Duke knocked off Florida State in the ACC tournament championship game 79-69 last year.

Tickets will be very limited with more information being released at a later date. “Coach K and his staff are the best in the game and we are beyond grateful for this game and the experience it will give our student-athletes, coaches, our alumni and our fans” continued Davis. “I have never been to a game at Cameron, but it has been on my bucket list. It looks like I may end up with a pretty good seat.”
