Men's Soccer Opens Season with 4-0 Blanking at Catawba

SALISBURY, NC -- Senior Kash Knight (Gibsonville, NC) scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead visiting Pfeiffer to a 4-0 win over Catawba in menís soccer action on Thursday night at Frock Field. The match was the season opener for both squads.

The teams battled scoreless until the final minutes of the opening half. With just under three minutes to go before the break Chris Venable (McLeansville, NC) headed home a cross from Knight to the back post from 10 yards out to give the Falcons the opening tally. Pfeiffer held a 6-1 edge in shot in the first half.

Knight added a pair of goals in the early stages of the second half, both on breakaways after stealing passes in the Catawba defense. The goals came in the 52nd and 64th minutes. Jeff Cannon (Lewis Center, OH) added the final goal as he headed home a cross from Nick Brindley (Northampton, ENGLAND).

Alex Moreno (Huntersville, NC) kept the clean sheet in goal for Pfeiffer. He turned away the lone Indian shot on goal. Tyler Held (Virginia Beach, VA) recorded three saves for Catawba.
