UNC-Pembroke Uses Late Goal to Slide Past Men's Soccer 2-1
September 4, 2009
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – UNC-Pembroke freshman Daniel Bougt (Stockholm, SWEDEN) scored his first goal of the season to break a 1-1 tie in the 85th minute helping the Braves to a 2-1 victory over the Pfeiffer Falcons on Friday afternoon. N.E. Lefko field saw plenty of action on Friday as the two teams combined for 30 fouls, 25 shots, 15 off-sides and the three second-half goals.
Reigning player of the week Kash Knight (Gibsonville, NC) put the Falcons on top in the 55th minute as Renato Barbosa (Charlotte, NC) found a streaking Alex Landim (Brockton, MA) who then completed the cross to Knight for the goal, his fourth in three games.
In the 67th minute, UNC-Pembroke squared things at one on a converted penalty kick by Andy Pullin (Guatamala City, GUATAMALA). Pfeiffer was whistled for a foul just inside the box which led to Pullin beating Falcons goalkeeper Alex Moreno (Huntersville, NC) to his right.
Bougt’s game winner came with a little fortune having just over five minutes to play. Bougt intercepted a pass from the Falcon defense and had Moreno misplay the shot down low for the goal.
The Falcons had a couple of chances late with a corner kick by Boo Tesh (Kannapolis, NC) and shot by Chris Venable (McLeansville, NC), but nothing would come out of either. Pfeiffer returns to action in a Sunday afternoon matinee with the 18th-ranked Francis Marion Patriots. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. at N.E. Lefko Field.
