Results vs. Lincoln University (Bowie St. Tournament) (2008-11-16 00:00:00)

Bowie, MD -- Pfeiffer bounced back from a difficult first game loss to win 16 hours later by 19 points over Lincoln University (PA) 103-84. Pfeiffer, who lost a heartbreaker in their first game that ended after 10:00PM on Saturday night to Columbia Union, was back on the floor for a 2:00PM start Sunday. Pfeiffer got off to an excellent start and took a nine point lead into the halftime break against a great shooting team that took nationally ranked Bowie State to the wire the night before. Pfeiffer extended the lead to 15 points with fourteen minutes remaining and the game never got closer than 12 points.
Sophomore Jeff Pettiway (Edgewood, MD/ Joppatowne) and freshman Davon Gilliard (Charleston, SC/ James Island) both had highly productive nights as Pettiway had 24 points on only 10 field goal attempts and Gilliard 19 points on 5-6 from the field and five rebounds. Alvin Slaton had another strong performance handing out seven assists and shooting 4-6 from the field and grabbing five rebounds. Chris Woods (Thomasville, NC/ Thomasville) was a force on the glass hauling in 12 rebounds and adding 18 points. Logan Call (Ronda, NC/ East Wilkes) who was named to the All-Tournament team had 13 points, six rebounds and three assists. Athalie Rivera (Baltimore, MD/ Caldwell CC/Dunbar) had 10 rebounds in only 10 minutes of playing time due to foul trouble. "I was very pleased with our ability to get ready and play with incredible intensity in this second game especially because we had very little time to rest or prepare," said Pfeiffer coach Dave Davis. "Lincoln has incredible offensive weapons and is likely a much better team than our first round opponent, but our guys answered the challenge and played a terrific game. We played very well on the defensive end at times and we again won the rebounding 54-46. We shot the ball well from the three (8-16) because for the first time, we took great shots. We like to play games in the Washington DC/Baltimore area because we have recruited and had so many excellent players from here. It is like a reunion when we come up because we get to see so many of our former guys and we try to get games for our current players from the area. It was really nice to see Jeff Pettiway and Athalie Rivera play so well in their home state. Chris Woods really bounced back and gave us a lift with his effort and hustle. Davon was very good after a shaky first game and he created great looks for his teammates along with scoring the ball. Nineteen points on only six shots is incredible production. Alvin kept finding guys for great shots and Logan's stat line speaks for itself. Athalie can really be a force if we can keep him out of foul trouble. We did almost everything better in this game but we proved our mental and physical toughness by playing so hard on short rest and these are areas where we have really been struggling."
Pfeiffer’s home opener is next Tuesday, November 25 vs. Erskine in a double header, women at 5:30 and men at 7:30.
