Hawkins Scores Twice in Women's Soccer 6-1 Win over Barton

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University scored a half-dozen goals on Tuesday afternoon to defeat the Barton Bulldogs 6-1 in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer action at N.E. Lefko Field. Ashley Hawkins (Madison, NC) scored a pair of goals as the Lady Falcons registered their fourth-straight win, unbeaten in their last six and improve to 6-3-3 overall and 3-1-2 in conference play. Barton drops to 2-8-1, 2-4-1.
Barton struck just two minutes into the contest as Dillon Sauls (Wilson, NC) blasted a 25-yard shot that found the top right corner to put the Bulldogs up 1-0. Pfeiffer fought back with a pair of unanswered goals to take a 2-1 lead into the half. Kirsten Bartsch (Leesburg, VA) took a pass from midfielder Alyssa Wombwell (Grand Blanc, MI) to even the contest at one in the 35th minute. Five minutes later, Hawkins found the back of the cage, off a rebound, for her first of the day. The initial shot by Megan Reaves (Mims, FL) was turned away by Barton keeper Angelina Lovett (Lillington, NC).
Wombwell started the second half off with her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 65th minute, with a corner kick that found the back of the cage, to put the Lady Falcons up two. Vanessa Gallegos (Cheyenne, WY) picked up her first tally of the season in the 72nd minute on an assist from Sheena Regan (Chesapeake, VA).
The final goals for Pfeiffer came in the 85th and 90th minutes. Hawkins put home her second of the day from Sam Brown (Linthicum, MD) and Megan Reaves (Mims, FL). Regan then deposited her second goal of the year to round out scoring with 50 seconds left to play.
Pfeiffer will get back to action on Saturday in a Conference Carolinas matchup at Converse. The Lady Falcons and the Valkyries will begin the action at 2:00 p.m.
