Landim's Hat Trick Not Enough; Limestone Converts 2 PK's in Crucial 5-4 win over Men's Soccer

GAFFNEY, S.C.— The Limestone College men’s soccer team defeated Pfeiffer University 5-4 in Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday. The Saints improve to 8-2 in the league and 11-4 overall. The Falcons fall to 7-2 in conference play and 12-4 overall.
Keegan Ziada (Melbourne, Australia) and Ali Benson (Hull, England) accounted for Limestone’s goals. Benson had a hat trick while Ziada scored twice and tallied an assist. Pfeiffer’s Alex Landim (Brockton, Mass.) also had a hat trick.
Pfeiffer kicked off the scoring with a goal by Landim in the 15th minute. Ziada equalized for the Saints five minutes later, but Pfeiffer took the lead again with a goal from Kash Knight (Gibsonville, N.C.) at 29:37. Limestone fought back to gain the 3-2 advantage at halftime after goals from Benson in the 37th and 42nd minutes.
Landim scored his second goal of the game only minutes after the start of the second half, but Benson came through for the Saints again as he scored to give Limestone the 4-3 lead. Landim made things interesting with his final goal in the 72nd minute to tie the score at 4-4. Limestone kept the pressure on Pfeiffer in the waning minutes of the game, and the Saints’ hard work paid off when Myles Jackson (Baltimore, Md.) passed the ball from the left side of the box to Ziada, who scored the game-winning goal at the 84:09 mark.
Limestone goalkeeper Mark Davidson (Middlesex, England) had six saves for the match while Pfeiffer’s Daniel Latasa (Jacksonville, Fla.) had seven.
Limestone outshot the Falcons 21-14. Both squads had four corner kicks.
Pfeiffer hosts Lees-McRae on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Misenheimer, N.C.
