October 31, 2009
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Lady Falcon junior Megan Reaves (Mims, FL) converted a free kick from 20-yards out in the 12th minute of play as Pfeiffer University blanked the Lees-McRae Bobcats 1-0 in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at N.E. Lefko Field. The win gives the Lady Falcons the #2 seed in next week’s conference tournament as their record improves to 11-5-3 overall, 8-1-2 in league play. Lees-McRae drops to 10-7-1, 7-4 and will be the #5 seed next week.
A Bobcats foul just outside the 18-yard box in the 12th minute gave the Lady Falcons the all-important free kick. Taking the shot, Reaves fired just to the right of the Bobcats defensive wall and keeper Brittany Bolton (Roanoke, VA) for the lone goal of the match.
In her final regular season match at home, goalkeeper Suzie Hinman (Idaho Falls, ID) collected the fifth shutout of the season stopping all three shots faced. Vickie Rich (Buffalo Grove, IL), Maribeth Novak (Homer Glen, NY) and Jessica O’Leary (Millbury, MA) took the three Lady Bobcat shots. Pfeiffer outshot Lees-McRae 24-3 on the afternoon.
The Lady Falcons will open up the Conference Carolinas tournament as the #2 seed taking on #7 Limestone at 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon. The Lady Bobcats open the tournament as the fifth-seed traveling to fourth-seeded Queens.
