Women's Soccer Season Ends with 1-0 Loss to Limestone in First Round of Conference Tournament

Box Score

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Limestone senior Bekki Hagarman (Tallahassee, FL) struck just before the half in the 42nd minute as the seventh-seeded Lady Saints upset the second-seeded Pfeiffer University Lady Falcons in the first round of the 2009 Conference Carolinas women’s soccer tournament on Monday afternoon. The match was played in Charlotte, NC at the Queens Sports Complex due to unplayable conditions in Misenheimer. Limestone moves to 8-10 overall, advancing to play with winner of Erskine/Anderson on Thursday. Pfeiffer ends their season at 11-6-3.

Pfeiffer outshot Limestone 8-4 in the first half, but the Lady Saints had a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal and on the scoreboard at 1-0 through the first 45 minutes of play. Lindsay McQuade (Uxbridge, MA) and Megan Reaves (Mims, FL) each had a pair of shots on net in the first period, but defender Tiffany Caudle (Gibsonville, NC) had the only Lady Falcon shot on net.

Just before the half in the 42nd minute, Hagarman put the second of her two shots in the half past Lady Falcon keeper Suzie Hinman (Idaho Falls, ID). Vanessa Jarrett (Ottawa, ONTARIO) sent a long pass down the right side of the field that was picked up by Madi Dulisse (Burlington, WI). Dulisse, inside the box, found Hagarman with the cross that put the Lady Saints up 1-0 at the half.

In the second half, Pfeiffer again outshot the Lady Saints 14-1, 22-5 in the match, but could not find the back of the net. Seven Lady Falcons had at-least two shots in the contest, led by Alyssa Wombwell (Grand Blanc, MI) and her four attempts. Ashley Hawkins (Madison, NC) had the only multi-shot on goal contest with two.

With two minutes to go, senior Kirsten Bartsch (Leesburg, VA) took a shot inside the goal box that was turned aside by a member of the Limestone defense. Brittany Clark (York, SC) stopped seven of the eight Pfeiffer shots on net with a helper on the one team save.
