Despite Beating Top-Two Region Teams, Men's Soccer Left Out of NCAA Postseason
November 9, 2009
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The 2009 men’s soccer season for Pfeiffer University has officially come to an end as the Falcons were left out of the NCAA II Regional Tournament announced by the NCAA on Monday night. Pfeiffer entered the Conference Carolinas tournament as the #3 seed in the Southeast region, but an opening-round loss to Belmont Abbey put the Falcons outside the region’s top six. Pfeiffer ends its season at 13-5.
A pair of Conference Carolinas schools were selected to host second-round matches, each with a first-round bye. Lees-McRae, who the Falcons defeated 1-0 in the regular-season finale, was selected as the region’s #1 seed with a 15-2-1 record. The Bobcats will host the winner of fifth-seeded Flagler (13-4-2) and fourth-seeded Wingate (12-4-1).
Anderson was the other league school selected and will also receive a first-round bye. The Falcons defeated Anderson earlier in the year 2-0. The Trojans will host the winner of sixth-seeded Lander (12-5-2) playing at third-seeded Carson-Newman (13-4-1).
