50 Second-Half Points Not Enough as Women's Basketball Falls at Armstrong Atlantic 88-81

Box Score

SAVANNAH, G.A. - Senior Lauren Hall hit all five three-point attempts en route to a game-high 24 points, while junior Arpine Amirkhanyan notched a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds as the Armstrong Atlantic State women's basketball squad collected its first win of the 2009-10 season with an 88-81 win over visiting Pfeiffer on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Arena. The Lady Falcons had a pair of 12-point scorers and added one with a double-double falling to 1-3 overall this season. The Lady Pirates (1-4) forced 25 turnovers by the Lady Falcons while hitting 9-of-17 three-pointers in emerging victorious in their home opener.

A Brooke Long three-pointer extended AASU's second-half lead to 14, 69-55, with 7:09 remaining, but Pfeiffer scored on six straight possessions to eventually cut the lead to just five, 77-72, on a Devona Knight layup with 3:06 left. Two free throws from Long, then an Amirkhanyan layup extended the lead back out to seven, and Pfeiffer never got back to within five the rest of the way.

Hall's 24 points led all scorers on the day as she hit 8-of-12 shots from the floor, including the 5-of-5 from three-point range. Amirkhanyan recorded her first career double-double for the Lady Pirates, while Long finished with 19 points as well, including a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line.

Pfeiffer was led by Brittany Cox and Domonique China, who each chipped in 12 points. Knight added a double-double for the Lady Falcons with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lady Falcons will get back to action on Tuesday night in a Conference Carolinas tilt at 5:30 p.m. Pfeiffer will welcome the Valkyries of Converse to the Merner Gym playing their final league contest before the new year.
