Incoming Swimmer Races against Michael Phelps at NABC Christmas Invitational

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Incoming Pfeiffer University swimmer Charlie Melesh recently competed at the 2009 North Baltimore Aquatic Club Christmas Invitational swimming against U.S. Olympian and world-renowned swimmer Michael Phelps. Melesh, who will be entering Pfeiffer in the fall, went up against the medal-winning Phelps in the 200 Butterfly finals.
Melesh qualified to race against Phelps in the finals after a preliminary time of 1:57.21. Phelps, winner of eight gold medals at the recent summer games in Beijing, qualified at 1:48.97. Swimming out of the Naval Academy Aquatic Club, Melesh was one of nine swimmers competing against Phelps in the finals of the 200 fly. In the A-final, Melesh touched the pad fourth with a time of 1:54.12. Phelps won convincingly with a finals time of 1:42.29.
