January 21, 2010
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – A pair of 20-point performances by James Crowder (High Point, NC) and Chris Woods (Thomasville, NC) paced Pfeiffer University in an 88-71 victory over the Limestone Saints in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action on Thursday night. Crowder, who scored the double-double with 11 rebounds, helps the Falcons win their third-straight moving to 9-5 overall, 5-3 inside league play. The loss sends Limestone to 9-4, 5-3.
Crowder scored 13 of his 20 in the first half pushing the Falcons out to a 10-point lead at the break. Five-straight points two minutes in started Crowder’s night off on the right foot. In a half that saw seven ties and 11 lead changes, Pfeiffer took the lead for good, 31-30, on a three-pointer by Jeff Pettiway (Edgewood, MD) at the 6:45 mark. Jarrell Douglass (Leesburg, FL) and Anthony Middleton (Holly Hill, SC) each cut the Pfeiffer lead to one on a pair of layups, before a 10-1 run by the hosts created the ten point advantage at the break.
Down by 12 three minutes into the second 20 minutes, Limestone jumped out on an 8-2 run, cutting the deficit to six on a three-point play by Danny Friend (Morrow, GA). Just past the midway point of the second, a 13-2 stretch by the Falcons thanks to a Pettiway three, layup by Crowder and free throws by Woods put Pfeiffer up 18 with 4:21 to play. Woods would finish with 14 second-half points.
Limestone was led by Friend’s 28 points, one of three Saints in double-figures. Middleton finished with 13 while Joe Raga (Lithia, FL) concluded with 10. Along with Woods and Crowder, Pettiway finished in double-digits with 16 while Davon Gilliard (Charleston, SC) drained 13.
Limestone made half of their 58 shots on the night, but went 0-for-7 from behind the arc. Pfeiffer finished the night shooting 47% from the field knocking down 11 long-range shots in the victory.
Pfeiffer will look to improve upon the win-streak as the homestand continues on Saturday night. The Falcons will host the Erskine Flying Fleet for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
