Men's Basketball Sinks 20 from Long-Range in 84-52 Win over Erskine

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University knocked down 20 three-point baskets cruising to an 84-52 win over Erskine College in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action on Saturday night. The Falcons were led by James Morse (Arundel, ME) and his 20 points, putting four total players in double-figures, improving 10-5 overall, 6-3 in league play. The Flying Fleet drop to 6-9, 3-6.

Pfeiffer started the night on a 12-0 run draining four-straight threes by Reggie Hollinger (Orlando, FL), Yuki Yamaguchi (Tokyo, JAPAN), Jeff Pettiway (Edgewood, MD) and Morse. By the halfway point of the first half, the Falcons had a 20-point lead sparked by another Pettiway three and a layup by Chris Woods (Thomasville, NC). The 20-point lead for the Falcons was set up by a 10-0 run as Pfeiffer sank nine long-range shots in the opening 20 minutes en route to a 42-24 halftime lead.

Pfeiffer put nine quick points on the board to start the second half as three began to rain down again courtesy of Pettiway and James Crowder (High Point, NC). After a pair of Brandon Wright (Goose Creek, SC) free throws, Pfeiffer shot out again on an 8-0 run for a 30-point lead after one of Morse’s six threes on the night. Morse would put the Falcons up 34 on another three at 7:57, before the largest lead of the night came at 4:27 as two Isaac Carr (Irwinton, GA) free throws put the Falcons up 35 with 4:27 to play.

Behind Morse, Woods finished the night with 13 points while Crowder and Pettiway each finished with a dozen. Crowder just missed posting a double-double with eight rebounds. Wright led the Flying Fleet with 12 on the night followed by Jay Boulware’s (Chester, SC) 11.

Pfeiffer shot 42% from the field and from behind the three-point line in the win, taking one less shot from three-land than Erskine did in the entire contest. The Pfeiffer defense set new season-highs on Saturday only allowing 24 points in a half and 52 for a contest. The Falcons will continue the grind that is Conference Carolinas basketball tipping off with Anderson at 7:30 p.m. Monday night inside the Merner Gym.
