Foul Trouble Hurts Women's Basketball in 67-62 Loss at Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C.- The Limestone College women's basketball team defeated Pfeiffer University 67-62 on Saturday night in an important Conference Carolinas contest. The Falcons, who entered tonight's' game at No. 2 in the league standings, falls to 11-4 in the conference (11-9 overall) as the Saints climb to 10-5 in the league (12-8 overall).
Limestone's scoring leader was Lauren Pace (Suwanee, Ga.) who had 17 points on 15-18 shooting from the free-throw line. She also had 3 assists and 2 steals. Tia Williams (Dacula, Ga.) scored 13 points while Maria Young (Asheville, N.C.) scored 12. Brittany Miller (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the team with 6 rebounds. Williams had a team-high 4 steals.
The Falcons Domonique China (Durham, N.C.) and Jamila Harris (Danville, Va.) scored 12 points each, and Christina Harvey (Locust Grove, Va.) chipped in 11. China also led her team with 4 rebounds.
Pfeiffer had solid shooting in the first period as it was 50% from the field (17-34). Limestone was only 33.3% from the floor (11-33), but made 12 of its 16 free-throw attempts and had 12 points from 3-pointers to stay within striking distance. The Falcons had a 1-point lead at halftime, 39-38.
Limestone came out strong in the second half, and had a 13-point lead (58-45) with 8:29 left in the game. Pfeiffer started to make a comeback in the final 5 minutes, but Limestone’s defense kept pressure on the Falcons to maintain its lead. The Saints had a 64-62 lead with 1:30 left on the clock and still led with 21 seconds left. Young gave the Saints a 3-point advantage with a made free-throw with 24 seconds remaining. Pace nailed two free-throws with only 4 seconds remaining to put LC up 67-62.
The Saints ended the game with a 37.5 field-goal percentage (21-56) while the Falcons were 26-62 from the floor (41.9%). Limestone scored 21 points from free-throws (21-33/63.6%) as Pfeiffer was 8-14 from the charity line. Each team had 40 rebounds.
Limestone travels to Anderson, S.C., on Monday to face conference-rival Anderson University at 5:30 p.m. The Falcons host Barton on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Misenheimer, N.C.
