Baseball Can't Slow Down Carson-Newman Bats in 17-7 Loss on Wednesday
February 17, 2010
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Carson-Newman right fielder Jeff Lockwood (Knoxville, TN) went 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs and seven RBI leading the Eagles to a 17-7 victory over Pfeiffer University in baseball action on Wednesday afternoon. Carson-Newman used a nine-run fifth inning to help them improve to 3-2 overall. The Falcons suffer their fourth loss in five contests dropping to 3-7.
The Eagles took a 4-0 lead into the fifth after an RBI-single and solo blast from Jon Dalton (Rutledge, TN) coupled with a Lockwood double. The fifth-inning explosion began with Mills Rogers (Simpsonville, SC) and Lockwood going back-to-back before Dalton, who racked up five RBI on the day, sent a three-run bomb to left-center. Lockwood would pick up another RBI in the frame taking a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.
The Falcon bats would awaken in the bottom of the fifth as Carlos Badillo (Gurabo, PR) put the hosts on the board with a two-run shot to left. Zack Pou (Stanley, NC) brought in Myles Pearl (High Point, NC) with his double to the gap in left before Will Davis (New London, NC) just missed a round-tripper with a double off the fence in center.
Both teams traded three runs in the sixth as the Eagles received Lockwood’s second homer of the day, a three-run shot to left-center, while Pfeiffer’s Pearl, Pou and Luke Wilhelm (Lexington, NC) each had RBI in the bottom of the inning. Carson-Newman closed out with Lockwood’s seventh and final RBI of the day with a single to center in the eighth.
Pfeiffer will now take Thursday and Friday off before a Conference Carolinas weekend series will take place Saturday and Sunday at Belmont Abbey.
