Men's Tennis Blanks Methodist 9-0

MISENHEIMER, N.C. Ė The Pfeiffer University menís team picked up a 9-0 win over Methodist in cold, windy conditions Friday afternoon at the Knapp Tennis Center. The Falcons improve to 2-1 overall while Methodist falls to 0-2.
Pfeiffer started the day off with the sweep at doubles. Johan de Wit/Philip Lawson defeated Matt Taylor/Robert Clayton at #1 doubles 8-4. Frank Pouchet/Andrea Cazzaro also scored an 8-4 win at number two over Reid Baker/Steven Burkett. The 8-2 decision came at the hands of Luis Villalta and Sid Kaushik playing in the third spot over Ricky Aybar/Sean Teeter.
The Falcons dropped just one set in six singles matches to clinch the win. Cazzaro, playing the in top spot, took care of Taylor 7-6 (7-3), 6-0. Lawson won his #2 singles match over Clayton one and three while de Wit beat Baker one and two. Ryan Kerr needed a third set played as a tiebreaker, 10-7, to defeat Burkett 2-6, 7-5.
Pfeiffer returns to the court on Tuesday for a 2:00 p.m. match at Lenoir-Rhyne.
