Pou Hits Three Bombs as Falcon Baseball Out Slugs #29 Mars Hill 19-15

MARS HILL, N.C. - Pfeiffer and No. 29-ranked Mars Hill went back and forth in an offensive shootout on Tuesday at Henderson Field, but the Falcons prevailed over the Lions 19-15 as Zack Pou (Stanley, N.C.) had a 5-for-6 day with three home runs, one a grand slam, and seven RBI. Pfeiffer improves to 11-13 overall. Mars Hill drops to 11-6 overall. The two teams combined for 34 runs and 40 hits in the game.

Eric Shoemaker (Huntersville, N.C.) belted a three-run homerun in the top of the first inning to get the slugfest underway. Rusty Smith (Leesburg, Va.) hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to one run.

The Falcons scored four runs in the next inning, highlighted by a two-run bomb by Pou to center field.

The Lions erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the inning to take a two-run lead. The half inning was highlighted by a three-run jack by Smith, his second of the game.

In the third inning, Mars Hill stretched its advantage to 13-7. Smith, South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week Devin Presnell (Boone, N.C.), Adam Lewis (MacClenny, Fla.) and Kris Torrance (P. Jefferson Station, N.Y.) all had one RBI in the inning.

Pfeiffer cut the score to 13-11 in the next inning with four runs. Josh Strickland (Liberty, N.C.) and Aarin Sharpe (Winterville, N.C.) had back-to-back RBI singles. Later in the inning, Carlos Badillo (Gurabo, Puerto Rico) doubled to right center, scoring two more runs.

Pou hit his second homerun of the game in the fifth to make the score 13-12 in favor of Mars Hill. In the next inning, he blasted a grand-slam to give the Falcons a three-run lead.

In the eighth inning with Mars Hill trailing 17-14, Patrick Davidson (Swannanoa, N.C.) led off with a solo shot to cut the margin to two runs, but the Lions would not get any closer. Myles Pearl (High Point, N.C.) added two extra runs of insurance in the ninth inning with a two-run homer.

Tyler Summers (Mechanicsville, Md.) picked up the win. He pitched five innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits. Greg Smith (Murrells Inlet, S.C.) was tagged with the loss. He allowed four earned runs on two hits in one and two-third innings pitched.
