Mesler Notches Hat Trick as Men's Lacrosse Defeats Wheeling Jesuit 11-7

MISENHEIMER, N.C. Ė Three goals by Dan Mesler and a shutout in the fourth quarter led Pfeiffer University to an 11-7 win over visiting Wheeling Jesuit in menís lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at N.E. Lefko Field. Pfeiffer makes it 2-for-2 in true home games improving to 2-5 on the season. The Cardinals fall to 0-2.
Wheeling Jesuit got on the board two and a half minutes in as John Dunbar assisted on a Jeff Arneson goal at the 12:31 mark. Pfeiffer squared the contest a couple of minutes later as Chad Olsen found the back of the net, in front of the Cardinals Shawn Grimm 35 seconds later that put the visitors up 2-1. Dunbar scored his own goal to make it 3-1 before Jameson Schultz and Kory Lutes struck for a 3-3 game after one.
Both teams traded three goals in the second as Mesler hit to begin and end the period. In between, Nick Tatro scored a man up goal for Wheeling Jesuit at 8:56 followed by Justin Rose 36 seconds later. Dunbar scored his second of the day as did Grimm just 55 seconds apart at 5:47 and 4:52.
Colin Jack and John Metz traded goals in the only bit of scoring in the third, before the Falcons outscored the Cardinals 4-0 in the fourth providing the final margin. Rose and Olsen scored 62 seconds apart while Mesler and Lutes rounded out the day with their third and seconds strikes of the day respectively.
The Falcons will hit the road to Pennsylvania to take on American International this Saturday afternoon. Faceoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
