March 12, 2010
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Using five long balls, two by Carlos Badillo (Gurabo, PR), Pfeiffer University rolled to a 15-4 victory over Post University in non-conference baseball action on Friday afternoon at Joe Ferebee Field. The Falcons move their overall mark to 12-14 while the Eagles drop to 4-7.
Preston Lyon (Gastonia, NC) continued his rampant tear at the plate delivering a two-run blast in the first to put the Falcons up 2-0. Post jumped on the board a half-inning later with a sacrifice fly from Jared Maddox (Arlington, TX) that scored Herold Mejia (Miami, FL) from third.
Pfeiffer opened the contest up with four in the second starting with Josh Strickland’s (Liberty, NC) lead-off double. Jesse Dunn (Easley, SC) later singled in Strickland before Myles Pearl (High Point, NC) struck with a long, three-run bomb to right-center for a 7-1 Falcon lead. Badillo made it 8-1 in the fourth with his first dinger of the day.
To begin the Post sixth, Doug Wells (Staten Island, NY) sent a shot to straight-away centerfield as the Eagles put single runs on the board in the sixth, seventh and eighth. Pfeiffer got the Wells run back on Badillo’s second round-tripper to left.
Travis Locascio (Massapequa, NY) put a two-out single to right in the seventh scoring Maddox slicing the deficit down to 8-3. With runners at first and third in the eighth, Post scored their final run on a failed pickoff attempt at first that ended up scoring Brendan Barry (Franklin Square, NY) from third.
A seven-run eighth for the Falcons started with Badillo’s sac-fly to right. Zack Pou (Stanley, NC) registered an RBI-single two hitters later in front of two-run single by Eric Shoemaker (Huntersville, NC). Will Davis (New London, NC) finished the frame with a two-run shot to left.
Nick Fogleman (Waxhaw, NC) earned the win for the Falcons tossing six frames allowing just two runs on four hits with a half-dozen strikeouts. Offensively for the Eagles, Locascio and Wells led the way with a pair of hits each.
Both teams will round out the three-game series with a Saturday afternoon twin-bill. First pitch, weather pending, is set for 12:00 p.m.
