Late Rally Falls Short; Women's Tennis Drops Second-Straight Conference Match, 5-4 to Erskine

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Erskine College scored a Conference Carolinas road victory 5-4 over Pfeiffer University in women’s tennis action at the Knapp Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Fleet improve to 7-3 overall, 6-1 in league play while the Lady Falcons fall to 4-2, 0-2.
Erskine swept all three doubles match and held on late in singles for the match victory. Tessa Rheault and Britton Bignon tallied an 8-6 win at number one doubles of the team of Alena Krutkina and Patty Dominquez. In the middle, Abby O’Reilly and Victoria Stephens rolled Maddy Billeter and Jonnell Carpenter 8-3 while Nikki Miller and Bridget McKenna needed a 7-4 tiebreak to win 9-8 over Catie Thomas and Chelsi Haefele in the third position.
The tightly contested match continued into singles play with Krutkina registering a 2-6, 6-3, 10-5 win over Rheault at number one while Dominguez got revenge on Bignon 6-3, 6-4. The Lady Fleet scored their first singles win at three with O’Reilly winning 6-0, 6-1 over Billeter while Thomas for Pfeiffer, notched another team point with a 6-3, 5-7, 12-10 win at four.
Erskine’s match-deciding point came in the fifth position as Miller won one and love over Carpenter. Haefele rounded out with a three and three win over Hannah Fisher.
Pfeiffer returns to conference action on Tuesday heading to Converse for a league-tilt with the Valkyries beginning at 3:00 p.m.
