March 16, 2010
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Visiting Lincoln Memorial swept a non-conference doubleheader from Pfeiffer University 6-5 and 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field. The Railsplitters improve to 20-6 overall while the Lady Falcons drop to 11-15.
GAME ONE: LMU 6, Pfeiffer 5
Lincoln Memorial put three on the board early in the second as Joy Grills (West Salem, OH) had a sacrifice fly while Meghan LaFevor (Columbia, TN) notched a two-run double. A Heather Nobles (Angier, NC) solo home run in the bottom of the frame put Pfeiffer on the board, before Brittany Stuive (Portland, TX) picked up a two-run single in the top of the third.
Each team traded runs in the fourth as Ashley Legge (St. Paris, OH) singled home Jackie Adams (Columbus, OH) while Nobles secured her second RBI plating Sarah Waylock (Cary, IL) with a double to left-center.
Pfeiffer made things close with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh, but ran out of time as the Railsplitters held on for the game one win. Waylock scored on a wild pitch in the sixth while Amber Johnson (Spokane, WA) picked up an RBI single that scored Bryttny Kreshka (Roseburg, OR) and Kylee Nichols (McMinville, OR). Nichols scored on a throwing error inside the same play as Johnson’s single.
GAME TWO: LMU 6, Pfeiffer 0
In the nightcap, LaFevor took matters into her own hands tossing a two-hitter from the circle. LaFevor hurled all seven frames scattering just two hits with a pair of strikeouts improving to 12-2. Nobles broke up the no-hit bid with a two-out single in the fourth.
Devin Sponsellor (Delaware, OH) singled home Adams in the first while Stuive drew a bases-loaded walk in the third, followed by Ashley Knight’s (Palm Harbor, FL) two-run single to left.
Single runs in the fourth and fifth would round out scoring on the afternoon as Grills scored Chelley Christian (Kingsport, TN) with a single to center in the fourth, in front of Legge’s two-out RBI-double in the fifth.
Pfeiffer returns to Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday, hosting Barton at 2:00 p.m.
