Slow Start on Defense by Men's Lacrosse Costly in 17-12 Loss at Seton Hill

GREENBURG, P.A. Ė Pfeiffer University gave up nine second period goals in a 17-12 loss at Seton Hill on Saturday afternoon in menís lacrosse action. The Griffins improve to 5-3 behind Josh Hollandís six goals. Pfeiffer, led by Chad Olsenís four strikes, evens to 7-7.

Tied 2-2 after the first quarter of play on back and forth goals by Justin Rose and Olsen, Seton Hill reeled off the first eight of nine goals in the second period to create the final separation. Breaking up multiple goals by Justin Menefee and Holland was Rose hitting at 10:10 of the second period. Olsen, along with Dan Mesler, struck just before the half in an 11-5 Seton Hill lead.

After Joel Zalesky and Holland hit on four-straight to start the third, Olsen hit again before two more Zalesky goals trailing 17-6 through three. The Falcons did mount a comeback in the fourth with five-straight to begin the frame thanks to a pair of goals by Nick Berkompas. Kory Lutes, Olsen and Mesler each hit as well in the five minute span, but the Falcons eventually ran out of time.

Seton Hill made a total of 18 saves in net, the highest by any Pfeiffer opponent this season. Corey Struss stopped 15 shots in the first three period while Chris Ilse turned aside three in the fourth.

Pfeiffer will wrap up their northern road swing tomorrow with a noon matchup at Lake Erie.
