Women's Lacrosse Gears Up for Conference Tournament with 19-2 Win over Erskine

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Junior Jessica Kennedy (Perth, Australia) put home a game-high five goals as Pfeiffer University defeated Erskine 19-2 in Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon at N.E. Lefko Field. The Lady Falcons move the record to 11-5 on the season, 5-1 in league play, while the Lady Fleet end their season at 0-17, 0-7.

Kennedy scored the first two goals for Pfeiffer before Jessica Moulton (Huntingtown, MD) scored at 27:00 even for a three-goal advantage. Natalie Marvin (South Berwick, ME) went on to score a pair before the half, while Sarah Hebberd (Golden, CO), Heidi Karaszkiewicz (Glen Burnie, MD) Tory Binder (Woodstock, MD), Amanda Smith (Leesburg, VA), Allie Gamble (Easton, MD) and Kelley Cunningham (Glen Cove, NY) each found the back of the net as Pfeiffer held a 12-0 lead at the break.

As she did in the first half, Kennedy came out and tallied the first two of the second half on assists from Marvin and Karaszkiewicz. Moulton followed suit from Hebberd while Cristina Monaco (Trinton Falls, NJ) notched her second of the season with 13:45 to play. Jaclyn Glendinning (Greenville, SC) put the Lady Fleet on the board at 10:14 before a pair of Lady Falcons scored their first goals of the season in the final nine minutes of action. On the front side of another Binder strike, Laura Shea (Damascus, MD) scored for the first time this season at 8:42 while Alyssa Wombwell (Grand Blanc, MI) did the same seven minutes later. Lisa Kmonicek (Frederick, MD) tallied the final Lady Fleet goal with a free-position shot with 14 seconds remaining.

For Pfeiffer, Moulton had a game-high five groundballs while Kennedy picked up six draw controls. Hebberd and Moulton each had a pair of caused turnovers. Von McKenzie (Greenville, SC) had four groundballs for Erskine while Kaitlyn Overley (Columbia, SC) turned aside five shots in net.

Pfeiffer will now face Queens in the 2010 regular season finale on Saturday, before entering next week’s Conference Carolinas tournament at Queens as the #2 seed.
