Woods and Dominguez Take Home Top Honors in End of Year Athletics Award Ceremony
April 26, 2010
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University held its annual athletic awards banquet on Monday night with Chris Woods and Patty Dominguez taking home the honor of top male and female athletes of the year, capping off a night of recognizing 325 student-athletes. Awards were handed out to the top indoor and outdoor male and female athletes along with a selected coach of the year. The night concluded with a few “ESPY” type awards such as the “comeback of the year” honor with a “best moment” and “best upset” award.
Woods, hailing from High Point, had another stellar year on the hardwood for the Falcons. He was named All-America by the division two bulletin, first-team all-region, all-state, first-team all-conference and the league’s runner-up for player of the year honors.
Dominguez, coming to Pfeiffer from Caracas, Venezuela, had a perfect 9-0 record in Conference Carolinas play this season at #2 singles for women’s tennis. Dominguez put together an 18-2 overall mark as a great leader for the Lady Falcons.
The Fred West Academic Award is given to a graduating senior student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average. Suzie Hinman, goalkeeper for women’s soccer, was this year’s recipient. Balancing her on field duties with those off the field, Hinman put tons of time into a rigorous course load each year. Putting in the time and effort for each assignment, test and project, Hinman has also planned many successful events on campus serving on several committees.
Josh Strickland (Baseball) and Molly Punk (Women’s Lacrosse) were each given the N.E. Lefko Sportsmanship Award. This award is given to a student-athlete who shows strong sportsmanship character as well as a positive role model for other students to follow on and off the field. The N.E.
