Men's Soccer Hires Jason P. Smith as Next Leader of Men's Soccer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Bobby Stewart, athletic director at Pfeiffer University, has announced Jason P. Smith will become the next head coach of the Falcons men’s soccer program. Smith brings an extensive background to Pfeiffer including a four-year stint with the Atlanta Silverbacks of the United Soccer League (USL).

During his tenure as head coach and general manager with the Silverbacks, Smith led the way for Atlanta setting numerous franchise records with a runner-up finish in the USL’s first division in 2007. Under Smith, the Silverbacks became a national contender on the pitch and the most prolific offensive team in the league. As general manager, Smith also handled player recruitment and contract negotiations for the franchise.

Smith brings extensive collegiate coaching experience to Pfeiffer. He spent 12 seasons as the men’s and women’s head coach at Piedmont College in Demorest, GA. Racking up 275 wins at Piedmont, Smith led the Lions to three South Region championships and 11 conference titles.

As a player, Smith was a team captain and standout performer at both Kennesaw State University and Truett-McConnell College receiving NJCAA all-conference and all-region honors during his sophomore year. After college, Smith played semi-professional for several USISL clubs including the Atlanta Express, Georgia Steamers, Atlanta Quicksilver, and the Atlanta Lightning. He also played briefly in the NPSL with the Tulsa Ambush.

Smith earned a pair of Bachelor’s degrees in English and History, before securing his Master’s in Public Administration, all from Piedmont.  Smith and the Falcons will open up the 2010 slate on Thursday, September 2nd hosting Catawba College at N.E. Lefko Field. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
