The Crusaders opened up the day with a quick 25-12 win in the opening set by receiving 17 points off of Pfeiffer errors. Rebekah Mayes (Ashland, KY) led NGU with three kills while serving up an ace and watching teammate Kaitlyn Harris (Orlando, FL) deliver two late kills for the set win.
The black and gold bounced back in set two with three kills apiece by Jordan O’Bryant (Reidsville, NC), Anna Vizvary (North Augusta, SC) and Abbie Ovbey (Mt. Harris put North Greenville up four with an early kill at 10-7 as the Crusaders maintained breathing room throughout the set. Harris came through again at 18-14 before two consecutive attack errors by Pfeiffer put the visitors up two sets to one.
Pfeiffer led 17-12 in set four before Anjelica Wilcox (Atlanta, GA) started the Crusaders rally with back-to-back kills. Mayes would then sandwich a pair of kills in between two Pfeiffer timeouts after Kayla O’Kelley (Wasilla, AK) had three put downs in a four point span.
Mayes had a match high 13 digs for North Greenville while O’Kelley finished with 10. Kristina Mordini (Freeport, IL) led the Lady Falcons with 10. Pfeiffer out-blocked North Greenville by a count of 7-4.
MATCH TWO: Montreat 3, Pfeiffer 0 (Box Score)
The Cavaliers made quick work of the Lady Falcons in three sets, ending the weekend as the only team with three wins in three contests. Ellen Goodman (Newfane, NY) had a match-high 10 kills including a go-ahead kill midway through set one as Montreat notched the three-point win. Hannah Scholz (Winter Park, FL) closed out the initial set with a pair of late kills in the 25-22 decision.
Montreat rolled in set two jumping out to a 7-0 lead on another kill courtesy of Goodman. The Cavaliers had consecutive-point scoring spans of seven, four and six hitting .444 in the middle set win. Hattie Lewis (Morganton, NC) had three kills while Scholz helped put down the final kill in front of a Pfeiffer attack error for the two set advantage.
The visitors never trailed in the final set en route to the sweep. Goodman forced a Pfeiffer timeout with another one of her 10 kills at 11-6, before the Lady Falcons Ashlee Panzer (Mt. Gilead, NC) forced a Montreat timeout with a kill at 17-12 trying to start a late rally. However, after a pair of Cavalier errors brought Pfeiffer to within two at 22-20, Anna Stephenson’s (Lillington, NC) kill and service ace by Hilary Harrison (Chesterfield, NC) ended the match.
Goodman was the only player to finish in double-digits with kills while teammate Allison Baumgartner (Charlotte, NC) followed closely behind with nine. Pfeiffer was led by Kim Amerell’s (Lynchburg, VA) seven. Montreat ended the weekend hitting .312 against the Lady Falcons.
Pfeiffer will now take a couple of days off before resuming Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday and Saturday nights. The Lady Falcons travel to Belmont Abbey and Erskine next week for 7:00 p.m. tilts.
