MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Columbus State, ranked #8 in the NSCAA’s national poll, defeated Pfeiffer University 6-0 in non-conference women’s soccer action on Sunday afternoon at N.E. Lefko Field. The win improves the eighth-ranked Cougars to 4-0 on the year while the Lady Falcons even to 2-2.
A pair of first half goals gave the visitors a 2-0 halftime lead as Jordan McKenzie (Harvest, AL) scored on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box for the game’s first goal in the 16th minute. In the 39 minute, Ashton Ziadie (Covington, GA) and Emily Husted (Peachtree, GA) each picked up an assist as Melinda Bush (Columbus, GA) notched her second goal of the season. Ziadie sent a long pass to Husted who chipped a short cross over to Bush for the goal.
Columbus State opened the second half with two goals in a 2:16 span doubling their advantage to four. Stephanie Parrish (Lawrenceville, GA) secured her first of the year at 47:32 while K.C. MacEachern (Augusta, GA) went top shelf just inside the 18 at 49:48.
The Cougars finished scoring in the 82nd and final minute of play as Stephanie Lowery (Sandy, UT) put home her team-leading third goal of the year while Husted tallied her second from Bush and Leslie Mathews (Stone Mountain, GA).
Pfeiffer managed three shots on a Columbus State defense that still hasn’t allowed a goal all season. The Lady Falcons best chance of the afternoon came in the first minute of play as Alyssa Wombwell (Grand Blanc, MI) rifled a shot high above the net.
Conference Carolinas play awaits Pfeiffer in their next contest Thursday at Queens. The Lady Falcons and Royals will square off in Pfeiffer’s league opener beginning at 7:00 p.m.
