Weston Has Big Day at Barton as Women's Soccer Rolls 7-0

WILSON, NC - Visiting Pfeiffer University strengthened its hold on second place in the Conference Carolinas standings Saturday afternoon when it handed host Barton College a 7-0 women's soccer homecoming loss. The Falcons (10-5 overall, 7-2 in league) outshot Barton 12-1 in shots on goal and got a stellar performance from Megan Weston, who assisted on three of Pfeiffer's four first-half goals, and then cashed in a shot of her own in the 65th minute. Alyssa Wombwell and Kaylie Lawing recorded two goals apiece for the Falcons.
Amanda Wemple tallied one save and got the win in goal for Pfeiffer. Starter Mileika Miki exited after the Falcons' first goal in the 20th minute, but returned to tend net in the second half for Barton (2-11, 1-7). She allowed four goals and notched four saves. Sarah Moore allowed three goals and had no saves.
Wombwell opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a 35-yard free kick into the upper right corner. She took a through ball from Weston four minutes later and found the net for her second goal. Rachel Shapelow headed in a corner kick from Weston in the 37th minute and Lawling made it 4-0 just nine seconds before intermission on a 15-yard blast.
Sheena Regan scored in the 49th minute. After receiving a through ball from Alex Cook, her first shot was blocked, but her follow-up attempt found the net. Weston scored off a Tish Patino assist in the 65th minute and Lawing tallied the final goal at 73:04 by crushing a shot from 35 yards inside the upper right corner.
Pfeiffer finished with a 17-1 advantage in corner kicks.
