Late Goal Lifts Lander over Men's Soccer 1-0
October 27, 2010
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Lander’s Zach Acree (Columbia, SC) was the only one able to find the back of the net putting in the game-winner with just 3:06 remaining as the Bearcats pulled out a 1-0 victory over Pfeiffer in non-conference men’s soccer action on Wednesday afternoon. The win marks the seventh-straight for Lander improving to 11-5 overall while the Falcons drop to 4-7-3.
A quick flick down the middle from Craig Hughes (Sunderland, ENGLAND) set up Acree for the match’s only strike. Acree’s blast snuck in on the right post from the left side of the pitch. Lander held a commanding 18-5 advantage on shots, slightly leading in shots on goal 4-1.
Besides Acree and Hughes, Fred Parker (Baton Rouge, LA) and Andy Ludewig (Washingtonville, NY) each had a shot on cage. Ethan Sacco (Concord, NC) had the lone shot on goal for the Falcons. Pfeiffer had early chances, but ended up with four offside calls in the match.
Next up for the Falcons will be the final regular season contest at St. Andrews on Saturday. Pfeiffer, looking to secure the #5 seed in next week’s tournament, will battle the Knights, looking to book their ticket into the postseason, at 3:00 p.m.
