MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer University women’s soccer team will head to Savannah, GA to begin their quest at a national championship on Friday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Lady Falcons, who defeated Belmont Abbey in a shootout on Saturday to clinch a spot in the national field, will take on UNC-Pembroke on Friday in the first round of the 2010 NCAA II Southeast Region tournament. Second-seeded Armstrong Atlantic, who receives a first-round bye, will host Friday’s match and take on the winner at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
Friday will be a rematch of their September 22nd matchup at Pembroke when the Lady Braves scored a pair of first half goals in a 2-0 shutout over Pfeiffer. Both teams got a bit of a break avoiding the region’s top-seed Columbus State. On the other side of the region’s bracket, fellow Conference foe Belmont Abbey will take on Lenoir-Rhyne for the right to take on the Lady Cougars.
The primary factors in selecting teams who didn’t receive the automatic qualifier were in region win-loss records, in region strength of schedule, head-to-head competition and results vs. ranked region opponents.
