Lady Falcon Softball Inks Six in Early Signing Period

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University head softball coach Amy Yates announced the signing of six student-athletes to join the Lady Falcons softball program in 2011. Alexis Brock, Tyresha Ellis, Lindsey Russell, Brittney Timberlake, Sadie Saine and Emily Workman all signed with Pfeiffer during the NCAA’s early signing period.

Brock, an outfielder from Raleigh, brings an all-conference and most outstanding player award to the Lady Falcons. Brock is a two-time coach’s award winner and all-academic award recipient in softball and volleyball. The senior from Knightdale High School holds a 3.79 grade point average playing summer ball as a member of the Triangle Lightning ASA team.

Coach Yates on Brock: “Lexie possesses an enormous amount of potential and brings a great glove to the outfield. Her hard work and positive outlook has paid off over the past year and I know she’ll be a great asset to our program.”

Ellis, a left-side infielder from Jefferson, South Carolina is a two-time all-region performer at Central High School. With speed and sharp glove over at short and third, Ellis holds a 3.7 GPA and plays for the Charlotte Magic-White ASA team.

Coach Yates on Ellis: “I’m looking forward to the versatility and speed that Ty will bring to our program.  She has a lot of experience on the left side of the infield and could be a great outfielder as well.”

Russell is a dual position player from Huntersville and Hopewell High School. Russell spends time over at short and in the pitcher’s circle racking up all-state, all-conference, all-district and 4A pitcher of the year honors. Academically, Russell holds a 4.2 GPA in the classroom and has played club ball with the Carolina Curve ASA team.

Coach Yates on Russell: “Lindsey is simply a great athlete combining the ability to pitch with the ability to play anywhere on the infield. After working with her at camp this past summer, I know she has the talent and the mentality to be very successful here at Pfeiffer.”

Timberlake, a second baseman from Concord, was named the team MVP at First Assembly High School during her freshman season while scoring the coach’s award in her second season at Jay M. Robinson High School. Off the field, Timberlake grasps a 4.07 GPA as a member of the National Beta Club. Timberlake is also a member of the Diamond Stars NSA team.

Coach Yates on Timberlake: “I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with Brittney over the next four years. She has a great attitude and has plenty desire to learn and play the game.”

Saine and Workman both come to Pfeiffer as four-year teammates at West Lincoln High School. Saine, from Crouse, has racked up multiple all-conference, all-district and all-state awards in both softball and basketball. Saine holds down the middle infield while Workman patrols the outfield. Both are members of the Foothills Heat ASA team during the summer. Both have outstanding GPA’s as Saine stands at 4.39 while Workman, from Vale, has earned a 4.34.

Coach Yates on Saine and Workman: “I had the opportunity to work with both Sadie and Emily at camp and learn not only about their talents, but their work ethic as well. Both girls stayed after sessions to get additional work in which says a lot about them as players. Sadie has a strong bat and will be a great addition to the middle infield, while Emily has tremendous speed to make her a big threat on offense and defense.”
The 2010 edition of Lady Falcons softball, led by Yates, will begin on Saturday, February 12th traveling to Carson-Newman for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader with the Lady Eagles.
