Box Score

CHARLESTON, S.C – The Charleston Southern women’s basketball team defeated the Falcons of Pfeiffer at a score of 74–59. This improves the Bucs' record to 4-6 (0-0, BSC) and drops the Falcons of Pfeiffer to 3-3 (2-0, Conference Carolinas). Leading the Buccaneers was senior guard Katie Tull who had a career high in points with 29 on the night.

Senior guard Kelsey Wasmer also had a great afternoon on the hardwood for the Buccaneers with her third double-double of the season. Wasmer pulled down  a career high 12 rebounds and put in 18 points. Wasmer was a tough defensive matchup for the Falcons throughout the game.

The Bucs had good ball pressure on the Falcons, forcing 14 turnovers from Pfeiffer in the first half and 26 for the game

Charleston Southern was in control of the game but couldn’t quite seem to get too far ahead of the Falcons in the early going. In a sequence towards the end of the half the Falcons answered two threes by senior Katie Tull with threes of their own.

To open the second half back-to-back threes by Tull helped the Bucs extend their lead to 17 points.

The better the Bucs began to shoot, the further the Falcons were forced to extend the zone to get hands in the face of shooters. This opened up the passing lanes between the zone and created easy scoring opportunities for the Bucs.

The Bucs lead hovered around 15 points for most of the second half, but a three from Kellie Rhoney in the corner cut the Bucs’ lead down to seven. The Bucs’ scrappy Div-II opponents from Pfeiffer would not quite go away, but as the Falcons began to tire, the Bucs began to get more open shots and extend their lead.

Katie Tull led all scorers Bucs with 29 points and shot 7-of-14 from beyond the arc. Tull has shot an amazing 56 % from three-point land within the friendly confines of Buccaneer Field House this season. Tull also previously set a CSU record for threes in a game this season in the Bucs first home victory over the Lady Tigers of Voorhees College.

Leading the Pfeiffer Falcons in the losing effort were Devona Knight who had 13 and Domonique China who also had 13 points on the afternoon.

Pfeiffer will now enjoy the holiday break until January 3rd when the Lady Falcons will host Barton in Conference Carolinas action at 5:30 p.m.
