MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Chris Woods (Thomasville, NC) continued his All-American senior season posting a career high 20 rebounds to go along with his game high 30 points as Pfeiffer University defeated Mount Olive College 86-71 in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action on Thursday night. Woods, the first to ever post 30 and 20 in the same game, help the Falcons improve to 6-4, 4-0 in league play. The Trojans suffer their third-straight loss dropping to 6-5, 1-2.

Mount Olive grabbed an early 2-0 lead on a basket by Derek Staton (Norfolk, VA) as the Falcons quickly tied it on a Jeff Pettiway (Edgewood, MD) jumper. The Falcons and Trojans deadlocked four times in the first half as Mahamed Ibrahim (Annandale, VA) squared the contest for the fourth and final time at 16 with 7:33 remaining in the opening half. Woods would continue his record setting night with a three-point play 40 seconds later while an 8-2 run, sparked by a Kyler Gregory (Gibsonville, NC) three, closed out the half with Pfeiffer on top 35-26.

Woods took over in the second half with 19 of his 30 point coming in the final 20 minutes. Yuki Yamaguchi (Tokyo, JAPAN) hit a triple to put the Falcons up 16 with 13:53 left on the clock to give the hosts their largest lead of the night.

Mount Olive cut the late deficit down to just five with under four minutes remaining on a long triple by Staton. However, a layup and pair of free throws by Woods would help seal the deal over the final few minutes. Pfeiffer outscored the Trojans 12-2 over the final 3:51.

Behind Woods, three other Falcons finished in double-digits as Davon Gilliard (Charleston, SC) put home 18 while Pettiway and Gregory each had a dozen. Woods finished 10-for-12 from the field and a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe. For the Trojans, Staton dropped in a team high 22 while Ewon Wright (Fayetteville, NC) and Ibrahim finished with 13 and 10 respectively.

Pfeiffer shot a season high 90% from the free throw line draining 27 of their 30 attempts. The Falcons also hit on 48% of their shots from the field while dominating Mount Olive on the boards 47-33.

The Falcons will take Friday off before bouncing back into conference play on Saturday night. Pfeiffer will host Limestone in another league tilt starting at 7:30 p.m.
