MISENHEIMER, N.C. Ė The University of the District of Columbia scored 28 points off of 21 Pfeiffer University turnovers en route to a 94-90 non-conference win in menís basketball on Wednesday night inside the Merner Gym. The Firebirds improve to 3-11 on the year while the Falcons even to 6-6.

The Falcons, trailing by 11 with 8:05 remaining, tied things up as Davon Gilliard (Charleston, SC) dropped in a layup with 2:59 to play that for an 84-84 ballgame. A fall away jumper by UDCís Brandon Herbert (Baltimore, MD) put the Firebirds back up by two just seconds later as the visitors would hold onto the lead from there. Trailing 92-90 with four seconds left, Gilliard missed what would have been a game-tying layup on a fast break as Nigel Munson (Washington, DC) snagged the rebound to secure the win.

Pfeiffer carried a 34-33 lead with 1:51 remaining in the opening period after a Reggie Hollinger (Orlando, FL) three-point play as UDC came right back with a free throw by Keith Brooks (Harlem, NY) and jumper by Herbert to regain the advantage. Brooks would nail one of his two triples on the night with 39 seconds remaining in the half leading to a 41-36 Firebirds lead at the break. Both sides traded the lead nine times in the first half.

UDC, playing with just eight guys, put four in double-figures as Herbert and Munson each had 19 points. Brooks finished with 15 while Tim Ellison (Alexandria, VA) contributed with 11.

For Pfeiffer, Chris Woods (Thomasville, NC) posted another strong double-double with 29 points and 15 rebounds, one of five Falcons in double-digit scoring. Hollinger wrapped up with 15, Gilliard and Vonte Eaford (Orlando, FL) each had 13 while Josh Humphrey (Matthews, NC) finished with 11.

From the field, both teams shot 52% on the night while the Firebirds hit on nine three-pointers to Pfeifferís four. The Falcons dominated points in the paint 48-28 and outscored UDC 42-22 off the bench, but the Firebirds scored 19 of their 28 points off of turnovers in the second half. Pfeiffer missed 12 free throws on the night as UDC was whistled for 31 team fouls.

Pfeiffer now looks to Saturday in an attempt to snap their two-game skid getting back into conference play. The Falcons will host rival Queens at 7:30 p.m. on blackout night. All fans attending are encouraged to wear black.
