MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University’s Christina Harvey (Locust Grove, VA) dropped in a game high 25 points as the Lady Falcons rolled Queens 73-64 in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action on Saturday night in the Merner Gym. Pfeiffer shot 51% in the win setting a new school record for blocks in a game with eight while moving to 4-9 overall, 3-4 in league play. The Royals, who shot just 31% from the field, dip to 5-7, 4-2.
The Lady Falcons jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first half after a Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, NC) layup at 16:21. After Queens trimmed the lead down to two, Pfeiffer spurted out on a 15-2 run to grab a 22-7 advantage at the halfway point. Domonique China (Durham, NC) put the hosts up 19 and 20 on consecutive shots with just under seven minutes left in the half until a three by Shelley Reese (Brown Summitt, NC) moved the lead to its largest of the night at 21 with 1:51 remaining. Queens cut the lead down to 15 at the break on a late Marissa Hudley (Charlotte, NC) jumper as Pfeiffer led 40-25 at the recess.
Back-to-back baskets by Harvey put Pfeiffer up 19 midway through the second half as the Lady Falcons held a healthy lead throughout the final 20 minutes. A pair of Dyonna Battle (Rocky Mount, NC) free throws cut the Royals deficit to nine with under a minute to go, but free throws from China and Harvey helped seal the nine point win.
Behind Harvey, China followed with 15 point for the Lady Falcons finishing one rebound shy of a double-double. Reese also concluded in double-digits with 11. Queens also put three in double figures led by Hudley’s 19. Jessica Lewis (Hampton, VA) had 15 while Battle wrapped up with 14. Pfeiffer dominated Queens from long range 9-2 and held a 41-37 rebound advantage to go along with the record eight blocks.
Pfeiffer will now head to St. Andrews for a 5:30 p.m. league matchup on Tuesday. The Lady Falcons swept both contests against the Knights a year ago.
