Falcon Swimming Wins 20 of 22 Events Rolling Division One VMI on Saturday Afternoon

MISENHEIMER, N.C. Ė Pfeiffer University wrapped up its 2010-2011 home swimming schedule with a pair of victories of division one VMI on Saturday afternoon at the Merner Pool. The men scored a 132-73 win over the Keydets while the Lady Falcons cruised 135-38. Pfeiffer notched wins in 20 of the 22 events on the day.
Senior day began with a bang as Pfeiffer tallied wins in both the menís and womenís 400-yard medley relay. Kim Benton, Haley Carter, Brittney Quaranto and Shelby Carrion defeated teammates Yukina Onoda, Jillian Kniffen, Morgan Dionne and Samantha Maness by six seconds. On the menís side, Charlie Melesh, Kevin Parks, Zach McMichael and Mark Franz won the event with a time of 3:41.88.
Maness and Melesh registered back-to-back wins in the 1,000-yard freestyle while Onoda and Edwin Torres did the same in the 200 free. The quick sprint in the 50 free saw Carter and Benton finish 1-2 in the womenís event while George Moreno scored the win on the menís side.
Carrion and McMichael continued Pfeifferís winning ways in the 100 fly while Kniffen and Moreno cruised in the 100 free. After Benton secured another victory in the 100 backstroke, Onoda and Melesh rolled in the 500 free. To wrap up the afternoon, Jim Roddenbery scored a personal win in the 100 breaststroke over Parks while both sides came up winners in the final event, the 400 free relay. Kniffen, Maness, Melissa Roberts and Quaranto finished first on the womenís side while Moreno, Franz, Pat Porter and Torres did so on the other side.
Next up on the swim schedule will be the grueling four-day Bluegrass Mountain Conference Meet in Charlotte. First day events begin on Wednesday, February 16th.
