Pettiway Leads All Scorers with 26 as Men's Basketball Cages Bobcats 105-89

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University put five players in double figures shooting 55% from the field in a 105-89 victory over Lees-McRae College in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball on Wednesday night. Senior Jeff Pettiway (Edgewood, MD) led all scorers with 26 points as the Falcons improve to 8-10 overall, 6-4 in league play. The Bobcats, paced by Sam Youse’s (Winston-Salem, NC) 20, fall to 4-13, 1-9.

Lees-McRae took their only lead of the night just 34 seconds in on an Adam McFerran (Stow, OH) free throw, before the Falcons took over for the final 39:26. Past the halfway point of the first, Pfeiffer created separation from Lees-McRae with a 14-2 run thanks to triples from Pettiway, Elijah Matthews (Clinton, MD) and Kyler Gregory (Gibsonville, NC). After a Reggie Hollinger (Orlando, FL) layup with 5:15 remaining in the half, the Falcons saw themselves enjoying a 17 point lead up 39-22. Pfeiffer would carry a 15-point lead into the locker room after a Youse basket with seven ticks left.

A quick second half start by the Bobcats saw the lead get trimmed down to eight after a Dairl Scott (Pfafftown, NC) bucket at the 14:57 mark. Eight of the next nine points belonged to Pfeiffer from there as a pair of shots from Chris Woods (Thomasville, NC) and jumper by Yuki Yamaguchi (Tokyo, JAPAN) put the hosts back up 16, 66-50.The Falcons maintained their double-digit lead for the remainder of the ballgame getting up as much as 22, 105-83, with 87 seconds left.

Behind Pettiway’s 26, Hollinger was the only other Falcon at the 20-point plateau with 20. Woods, who was whistled for quick fouls all night, finished with 17 while Josh Humphrey (Matthews, NC) had 16. Matthews was the final Falcon in double digits with 11.

For the Bobcats, Youse was one of four visitors in double figures as McFerran crossed the 1,000-point mark for his career with 19. Daniel Sepokas (Illawong, AUSTRALIA) connected for 17 while Tevin Friday (Gastonia, NC) wrapped up with 11.

Lees-McRae shot 60% from the field in the loss. The Bobcats continually struggled from the charity stripe draining 12 of 28 attempts. The Falcons used the free throw line for a big advantage connecting on 22 of 26 attempts. Pfeiffer also cashed in on Lees-McRae turnovers with 25 points off of Bobcat miscues.

Pfeiffer returns to league action on Saturday heading to Gaffney, SC for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with Limestone.
