February 18, 2011
MILLEDGEVILLE, G.A. – A two-out, three-run blast by Benton Yaun in the bottom of the third shifted momentum to #3 Georgia College and State as the Bobcats registered an 8-3 victory over Pfeiffer University in non-conference baseball action on Friday afternoon at John Kurtz Field. The third-ranked Bobcats improve to 6-3 with the win while the Falcons fall to 5-5.
Trailing 2-0 after the first frame, Hunter Boehme brought home the first Pfeiffer run on the day with a bunt that scored Mike Green from third. The change in tide began in the GCSU third as Richard Pirkle and Tanner Funk drew back-to-back two-out walks to keep the inning alive. Benton Yaun promptly made the Falcons pay with a three-run bomb to put the hosts up 5-1.
Trailing 7-1 in the sixth, Pfeiffer clawed back with a pair of runs as Preston Lyon delivered a two-run single to right that scored Boehme and Green. GCSU then followed with another run in their half of the sixth to close out scoring. Pfeiffer out-hit GCSU 12-9 on the day led by Matt Wade’s 3-for-5 afternoon and two hits each by Jacob Yates, Lyon and Tyler Smith.
