Third Quarter Flurry Sends Men's Lacrosse to 18-1 Rout of Lake Erie

MISENHEIMER, N.C. Ė Pfeiffer University outscored Lake Erie College 10-0 in the third quarter coasting to an 18-1 victory over the Storm in non-conference menís lacrosse action on Friday afternoon. James Shepherd (St. John, New Brunswick) put home a game-high five goals as the Falcons improve to 3-1. Lake Erie falls to 0-1 dropping its season opener.
Shepherd tallied the only goal of the first quarter at the 6:09 mark with an assist from Elliot Gilbert (Corning, NY). Lake Erie struck for their only tally of the day with 8:30 left in the second as Trevor Tate (Amherstburg, Ontario) netted an unassisted goal. Shepherd and Nick Berkompas (Webster, NY) each found the back of the net at 5:51 and 2:35 as Pfeiffer held a 3-1 lead at the break.
Shepherd got the second half ball rolling with a man-up goal just 53 seconds in followed by Berkompas and Gilbert striking just nine seconds apart two minutes later. A man-up hit by Tucker Hammock (Marietta, GA), along with Steven Tilmon (Orlando, FL), scored 46 seconds apart in the third while Shepherd and Berkompas went back-to-back just 17 seconds apart starting at 7:34. Kory Lutes (Orlando, FL) and Tilmon closed out the third quarter with goals at 2:09 and 1:28 as the Falcons opened up a two-game game at halftime to a dozen goal lead 15 minutes later.
Hammock would add two more in the final stanza while Shepherd and Tilmon each hit one final time later in the fourth. Robert Hope (Peterborough, Ontario) got in on the action in the fourth as well with seven different Falcons netting at-least one tally. Shepherd also secured nine groundballs in the win while Billy Rawson (St. Charles, IL) went 11-of-18 on face-offs. Hayden Kirk (Farmingdale, NY) made 13 saves in net for the win.
Pfeiffer will now head to Florida for a pair of matches starting Sunday at Florida Southern. Game time in Lakeland is set for 7:00 p.m.†
