Tennis Teams Come Up Short at D1 Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Both Pfeiffer University tennis teams fell short at division one Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon. Alena Krutkina secured the only point as the Lady Falcons lost 5-1 while the men were blanked for the first time this season 7-0. Pfeiffer's women fall to 6-7 on the year while the men dip to 5-3.
After both doubles match ended 8-0 in favor of GWU, Krutkina won her first singles set 6-4 before winning on retirement down 1-0 in the second. The other four singles contests went to Gardner-Webb in straight-sets.
On the men's side, Philip Lawson and Johan de Wit won their #1 doubles match 9-8, but Gardner-Webb secured the other two matches gaining the one team point up for grabs according to division one rules. Lawson put up the best effort in singles falling 7-5, 6-3.
