Men's Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision to Limestone in Conference Carolinas Home Opener

MISENHEIMER, N.C. Ė Limestone Collegeís Scott Schweihofer (Marysville, MI) put down a game-high 24 kills hitting .450 for the match as the Saints claimed a 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-17, 25-19) victory over Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas menís volleyball action on Tuesday night. The win pushes Limestone to 11-8 overall, 2-5 in league play while the Falcons dip to 8-8, 0-4.
Back-to-back kills by Schweihofer put the Saints up early 10-6 as the visitors would maintain a healthy advantage through the first stanza. Four-straight points midway through the first set put Limestone up 20-13 while a pair of Schweihofer kills helped closed out the first set 25-18.
Set two would go back-and-forth early until an Eric Edelman (Henrietta, NY) kill gave the Falcons the lead for good at 15-14. A later kill by Michael McLaughlin (Aliquippa, PA) gave the hosts their largest set two lead at 21-16, before Edelman helped stifle a Saints comeback with a pair of kills over the final six plays to even the match at a set apiece.
Trailing by one early in set three, kills from Edelman and Micah Bortner (Dallastown, PA) helped keep the Falcons within one until a Pfeiffer service error opened the door for the Saints. Schweihofer and Mikee DeJager (Oviedo, FL) would boosts leads back out to two on a couple occasions while an ace by Andrew Pile (Macungi, PA) forced a Pfeiffer timeout late as Limestone led 18-14. The Saints held the lead from that point on as three-straight Falcon errors closed out set number three.
In the final stanza, kills from James Dorr (Spokane, WA) and Andrew Miller (Miami, FL) turned a 3-3 game into a 6-3 Limestone lead as the Saints finalized things from there. Schweihofer would later make things 14-7 and 19-12 on two more of his 24 kills while Miller and the final attacking error of 26 on the night by Pfeiffer ended the match.
No one else in a Limestone uniform finished with double-digit kills except Schweihofer. Pile led the way with 39 assists and eight digs. The Saints did use 10 total team blocks on the led paced by Millerís two solos and two assists.
For Pfeiffer, Edelman and Drew Burdette (Greer, SC) each had 15 kills while Evan Fullerton (Ambridge, PA) dished out a game-high 40 assists. Burdette hit a team-high .429 in the loss. Libero Mark Hess (Lebanon, PA) led the way with seven digs on defense.
The Falcons return to action this weekend in Pennsylvania with contests at Juniata on Saturday and St. Francis on Sunday, before hosting Mount Olive in league action next Thursday.†
