Bats Explode in Game One; Tuttle Delivers One-Hitter in Game Two as Baseball Sweeps St. Andrews

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University snapped its 12-game losing streak in dominant fashion sweeping St. Andrews Presbyterian College 18-6 and 6-0 in Conference Carolinas baseball action Saturday at a gusty Joe Ferebee Field. The Falcons pounded out 17 hits in the opener while Bryan Tuttle tossed a complete game one-hitter in the night cap. Pfeiffer improves to 15-24 overall, 8-9 in league play, while the Knights dip to 8-27, 2-15.
Pfeiffer scored multiple runs in seven of their eight innings at the plate in game one plating at-least one run in every frame. Five Falcons had multi-hit games as Jacob Yates and Jon Gray each had three while Eric Shoemaker, Hunter Boehme and Preston Lyon racked up two. Lyon led the way with four RBI. Eric Shuford earned the game one win tossing six innings allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits with seven strikeouts.
In game two, Tuttle allowed a first inning hit to St. Andrews before rolling the rest of the way with a walk and six strikeouts. Tuttle retired the last eleven-straight Knights to preserve the shutout.
Kevin Price delivered an RBI single for the Falcons in the bottom of the first while a St. Andrews error and sacrifice fly by Gray led to two more runs in the third. Pfeiffer added a pair in the fourth on a Tyler Smith RBI-single and run-scoring double by Jesse Dunn. Scoring finished in the fifth with a solo home run off the bat of Matt Wade.
Smith led the Falcons in game two going 3-for-4, 4-for-5 overall on the day. Dunn had the other multi-hit game in the nightcap going 2-for-4.
Pfeiffer will look for the weekend sweep on Sunday as the same two teams meet at 1:00 p.m. in the series finale.
