Early Leads Fades Fast as Baseball Falls 7-2 at Tusculum
April 5, 2011
GREENEVILLE, T.N. – Despite grabbing an early 2-0 lead, Pfeiffer University saw their three-game win streak come to an end as Tusculum College scored a 7-2 victory over the Falcons in non-conference baseball action Tuesday night. The Pioneers move to 27-10 overall on the year while the Falcons fall to 16-25.
All of Pfeiffer’s damage came in the first frame as Jacob Yates began the game with a five-pitch walk. After a Tyler Smith double, Jesse Dunn would drive in the only two runs of the night with a single up the middle putting the Falcons up 2-0. Pfeiffer wouldn’t manage a hit for the final eight innings.
A four-run third frame put Tusculum up for good while the hosts added single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh. The Pioneers out-hit Pfeiffer 12-2 on the night. Rolondo Bonner led Tusculum with a 4-for-5 night at the plate while Smith and Dunn had the only two visitor hits.
Pfeiffer will wrap up its Tennessee trip on Wednesday with a 2:00 p.m. matchup at Carson-Newman.
