Falcon Baseball Pound Out 17 Hits with Four Homers in 15-3 Rout of Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, T.N. – Pfeiffer University scored 15 runs while pounding out 17 hits during a 15-3 victory over Carson-Newman College on Wednesday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex. The Falcons hit four long balls improving to 17-24 on the year while the Eagles drop to 17-22.
A Hunter Boehme RBI-double brought home the first of the 15 runs on the day. In the third, a Jesse Dunn RBI-single and Carson-Newman passed ball plated two more before Preston Lyon made it 4-0 with a two-bagger in the fourth.
In the three-run fifth, Dunn and Jon Gray each smacked solo homers while Jacob Yates added a RBI-double in between. During a four-run sixth, Yates singled home two more Falcon runs while Gray doubled in another. Eric Shoemaker brought home the other tally with a bases loaded walk.
Lyon opened it up even more started another four-run frame with a solo blast in the seventh. Shoemaker plated the others with a three-run bomb to finish the seventh. Carson-Newman broke up the shutout with their three runs in the eighth.
Ethan Marsh scored the win on the mound with seven solid innings of work scattering three hits with five strikeouts. Gray led the Falcons at the plate with four hits in five trips. Four other Pfeiffer players had multi-hit days.
Pfeiffer will now look to secure a spot in the upcoming 2011 Conference Carolinas tournament needing one win in this weekend’s league final at Coker. First pitch in Saturday’s twinbill is set for 12:00 p.m.
